and your life could change forever.
---------

Today, my 15 year old brother was caught in a middle of a drive-by shooting near Eglinton & Keele. He was literally metres away from the victim (which was shot in the leg). This has been the 3rd or 4th shooting in my area within the last 30 days. It's just unbelieveable how it just happened in broad daylight. It's just unbelieveable how these people can be so idiotic to put innocent peoples' lives in danger. I makes me so angry that my brother and sister can't be safe in our community. I used to be able to ride my bike until 10pm without a single worry, without my parents getting on my case because it was late. Now, my grandma waits and watches outside her window until my siblings are home because she's worried they will get hurt.

Since when did all this violence happen? Who is to blame? How are these teenagers getting these guns? Why don't be have tighter control over gun violence & gun traffiking? Why the hell are people using guns to fix problems - it's only creating more. With the election coming up, which party is going to do something about gun and gang related violence? Although the conservative party are focusing on Toronto's crime rates and gun violence, what can they really do? They can't just walk up to every gang member there is in the city and say "hey, so we are trying to cut down on crime..so do you want to give us your weapons and play nice with the other gangs thanks!" I really don't know what our city can REALLY do to make a bigger difference. Should we be investing in prevention? Should we be focusing on putting those criminals in jail? What happens when our prison facilities are full? Are we just going to release these criminals back onto the streets and give them community service and place them under house arrest? Because we all know house arrest is REALLY going to stop them from their illegal activities.

I just can't seem to grasp the idea that one day I would be reading about shootings in the newspaper and the next my brother is caught in the middle of a drive-by shooting - talk about hitting home uh? I just hope that if anyone knows someone that owes a gun illegally please turn them in... there's no point protecting someone that might as well hurt an innocent person. I am just in utter shock right now. All it takes is just one moment, being in the wrong place & the wrong time and your life could just end there.

Words of Wisdom
"I walked a mile with Pleasure;
She chatted all the way;
But left me none the wiser
For all she had to say.

I walked a mile with Sorrow,
And ne’er a word said she;
But, oh! The things I learned from her,
When sorrow walked with me."
